Starting character designs



After finishing getting foley for the animatic, I was given the task to produce the character designs for Shelterbox. As my other team-mates were working on the background and object assets. I felt the best way to begin with this character was to think of how to form an interesting yet simple product for the age group of around 7-11; so I played around with the brushes in Photoshop and found the air brush was best for the skin and hair, while the dense default brush would be better for the clothes and shoes. The two brushes gave a good emphasis to each others contrast and it felt a bit like a storybook style, with the airbrush brush going outside of the lines and the hairs form being shown by tone rather than outline.
